In childhood, hardships were almost always present for Latoya. She experienced years of abuse and domestic violence, struggles with substance use, psychiatric hospitalizations, and involvement with the legal system.
Seeking a place of support and hope, she became a member of Park Center’s Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) in 2021. Through counseling and hard work, Latoya achieved a period of sobriety greater than seven months, remained mentally healthy, and met her probation requirements. She has set boundaries to keep herself safe from people and influences that have harmed her.
“Using substances only makes things worse.”
Recently, Latoya experienced extreme adversity when someone killed her oldest son. She and her family have been coping with his passing while she continues to work with our staff, attend IOP groups, and learn how to process her emotions in healthy ways.
She believes using substances “only makes things worse” and that she must “keep working through this” using her support system and continuing to work on her recovery. Latoya has shown that she is well on her way to achieving her goals of remaining sober and mentally healthy, attending college to learn to run her own business and continuing to be an amazing mother.
