Honoring Dennis Wenner
October 20, 2020
Last October, Park Center lost a dear staff person, Dennis Wenner. Dennis was part of the Operations team. He was an absolute introvert in every sense of the word. He was a quirky individual with a dry sense of humor and the kindest heart. Dennis was a strong believer in the power of recovery and devoted his entire career to helping people with mental illness live better lives. He was able to make a difference in the lives of people with mental illness through his work at Park Center. Park Center was Dennis’ retirement job after working for the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services for more than 30 years. Dennis was integral in writing many of the federal grants that the State of TN received to fund Peer Support Services across the state. One of his largest contributions to Park Center was coordinating the massive effort it took for us to become CARF-accredited 10 years ago.
He loved our members and our mission and when he passed away, he bequeathed the sale of his East Nashville home to Park Center. This has enabled us to create a memorial fund named in his honor. In his will, Dennis requested that this money be used for direct assistance for members. Dennis leaves behind a legacy that will help our members through financial hardships and overcome barriers they may face on their path to recovery.
